Sometimes Christians have a difficulty finding the will of God. When a great opportunity opens up to them, they are not sure whether they should take that opportunity at hand or not. Many opportunities come to every believer, which is not decided by Scriptures, prayer, or any other biblical resources. When you talk about the will of God, you must ask, “What is God’s will?” God has a will or purpose for all living things.

First, God’s Sovereign Will, which means that God is sovereign over His creation. God is the Almighty Ruler and Controller over the universe. Originally, God formed a perfect plan for narration. God is working all things by His will, after the counsel of His sovereign will (Acts 2:23; 4:27-28; Romans 9:6-29; 1 Chronicles 29:11-13). Second is God’s Redemptive Will, where this involves God’s grace and good pleasure for the redemption of the fallen man and woman. Jesus emphasized this in John 6:40 see also Ephesians 1:3-6; 2:8-9. Third, God’s Moral Will, the term involves all the moral commands revealed to us through His commandments. It also includes the biblical teachings concerning how we believe and live our daily lives (Deuteronomy 29:29; 1 Thessalonians 4:3; 5:18; Romans 12:2). Fourth, there is God’s Individual’s Will, which involves the will or the might of the individual. Many refer to this term as God’s perfect or ideal will, or one’s life plan. Fifth, is God’s Permissive Will, the term involves what happens to a person who steps out of God’s perfect will. Sixth, is God’s Circumstantial Will, which is not God’s neither best, nor even God’s second best for an individual’s life.[1]

Overall, we have to submit to His will, His way, His purpose, His assignment and through obedience we are already in it! With our love, compassion, and our heart contains power to change the way we live and thoughts.[2]

The center of God’s will, when we want to pursue a career, move to another place or state, or major life change by consulting God first. Without the will of God, only leads to failure, confusion and destruction in the long haul. Still, God will show His will and lead us by speaking to our hearts by follow His leading (Matthew 7:21; Hebrews 10:36; 1 Peter 3:17; 4:19; 1 John 2:17; Psalm 91:11). It is a daily battleground to renew our minds (Philippians 2:12-13).

Timing is the essence of life. Some people are not willing to wait for God’s timing, and prefer to follow natural timing [laws of nature]. When you seek the will of God, also seek to know the right time to implement His will.

On the other hand, some people enjoy the will of God, when they are in church or when He is answering their prayers, or when they are fellowshipping with other Christians. However, when they are having difficulties such as an accident, death of a family member, house burned down, or serious disease or bankruptcy comes—are they still in the will of God?

Job was a wealthy man who had everything going for him. He had material wealth such as land, resources, servants, wonderful family and a wife. Later, Satan asked God to remove the power of God that protected Job. First, God allowed Satan to take away all of Job’s assets and family (children). Next, God gave Satan permission to take away his physical health, placing an illness over his body. However, God had one restriction, to spare his life. Afterward, even Job’s wife, told him to curse God and die. Notice Job’s response: But Job replied, “You talk like a foolish woman. Should we accept only good things from the hand of God and never anything bad?” So in all this, Job said nothing wrong [against God, for he did not sin]. (Job 2:10, NLT and emphasis added).” Job remained in the will of God, even in his trouble.

We may loose our money, health, and other resources taken away from God’s children, but it does not mean that we are out of the will of God. When God prospers His children, it is not always physical or financial prosperity. God’s prosperity is always spiritual, whether it is money or not. God wants us to walk with Him and fellowship with Him. Moreover, we see that Job was yielded to the will of God.

Think of all the sufferings of Paul. He was beaten, stoned, imprisoned, shipwrecked, robbed, and continually criticized and verbally attacked, which he called it the light of affliction.[3] There have been a host of missionaries and many others who have gone into great difficulties; yet God took care of all their needs. God’s spirit will never lead you, where God’s grace will not provide for you.[4]

Patience: we have to wait on God to make the move. We are still to praise Him in the midst of your situation as Job did. Do not stop praying even though you feel or think God is not listening or have been praying for a long time. We are tapping into God’s love, His healing, and His redemption when you pray and surrender yourself and your life to Him daily.

In addition, prayers helps lift that load or burden within, which are those strongholds. Satan think he has over our lives. Most of all, God reminds us constantly to trust in Him (Proverbs 3:5-6). God also can send His angels to answer certain prayers.

In 1 King 18 is the story about Elijah’s victory over Jezebel’s prophet of Baal on Mount Carmel.  Then, 1 King 19:1-4 shows that Elijah lost his spiritual equilibrium, which caused him to feel afraid of his situation and felt defeated by the one in power, Jezebel. We feel this way sometimes, lose a sense of hope and faith, and need to check our spirituality. God is not finish with you yet. We will be tested or pressed, but we will gain strength and wisdom (1 King 19:5-8). Whatever your situation is, do not stop praying since angels are getting ready on God’s command to come. If it seems like nothing is happening, do not give up. God and His angels are at work. God reveals things to us through His grace and His power. His grace sustains and helps us as His power delivers us! No matter what God brings our way, He wants us to acknowledge that we must depend on Him.

Moreover, He uses storms in our lives to accomplish His purpose. It is also to build our character and integrity, for what is to come according to His will. Allow no situation to turn your back on God. He sees what you are going through and has not forgotten you. God has total control over your situation.

The Bible exhorts Christians to demonstrate God’s perfect will for their lives: “And do not be conformed to this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God (Romans 12:2).” Moreover, God has commanded what we have to “understand what the will of the Lord is (Ephesians 5:17).” Because God commands us to understand His will, then we can discover and know the will of God for our lives. God will not give us the responsibility to know His plan without giving us the ability to find it.

There are three steps in finding God’s will. First, God’s will is found through His Word. God’s will never contradict the Scriptures. If you think you are doing the will of God, yet your life is contrary to the Bible, unfortunately you have misinterpreted or misunderstood the will of God. Second, discover God’s will through circumstances: “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).”

For example, servant Eliezer living in the will of God, found Rebekah to be Isaac’s bride after he said, “As for me, being on the way, the Lord led me (Genesis 24:27).” Third, the will of God is spoken through godly counsel. “Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety (Proverbs 11:14).”[5]

Usually, the will of God does not include everything that is going to happen in the future. Instead God shows His will to us step-by-step and day-by-day. Elijah was in the wilderness. God told him to sleep, but did not tell him what was going to happen next. Then God told him to eat before his forty day journey. Again, God did not tell him what was going to happen. When Elijah arrived at Mt. Horeb, the prophet still did not see the entire picture. God only revealed a partial view of the future to Elijah (1 Kings 19:4-18). If God gave us His futures will at one time, it would overwhelm us. If we knew the suffering to come, the responsibilities and burdens, we would reject His will. When God feels we are ready to face His will, no matter what the circumstances, burdens, and struggles will be, we will be able to stand firm and know that God is there to lead us to what is to come. If we knew the miracles God would do through our lives, it would feed our egos.
